Advertising has been around for ages. The purpose of advertising is still primarily to draw attention to something mostly for commercial purposes. One definition is given as a “description or presentation of a product, idea, or organization, in order to induce individuals to buy, support, or approve of it.” This definition is incomplete as advertising can also be used to have disapproved of a product or service.
The advertising industry now commands almost a trillion dollars annually and there is considerable debate as to how much of is done online, specifically on websites. Despite that the fact that many claim to dislike advertising, in some countries, advertising online has surpassed the amount of promotion done in other media such as print and television.
